Warning!!
Caribou
Creek access may be taken!
The following is a message from Richard Crain, KCK Secretary:
KCK Board was notified that the Alaska Dept of Transportation is planning to replace the Caribou Creek Bridge. This project will impact access and parking for private individuals who park and float Caribou Creek to get to Lion's Head on the Matanuska River.
There is speculation that D.O.T. plans to eliminate the current parking area and channelize the stream bed to fit their idea of bridges. Commercial interests are negotiating to purchase private land to protect their access. This option is not available to KCK. Details are sketchy at this time.
If you have an interest in keeping this area open to private boaters, now is the time to make your thoughts known.
KCK members should develop some rational and site specific requirements to present to the Highway Design Division. (ie: how large an area might be needed; should the road/lot be graveled, how steep an access road would be acceptable, etc. etc.)
